Mindfulness – The Space Between Your Thoughts
Mindfulness is meditative awareness, and meditative awareness is being aware that you are aware.

Your thoughts are always in the past or the future. And your mind will always stop you from being at the present moment. That is because when your mind is at the present moment, the past and future will not be able to survive.

The problem is like a rushing river, when we try to stop it with our hand, it will still flow, and if we jump into it, we will be wash away by the river. Just be aware of the river, be the watcher of the river. You will then be aware of the space between you and your thoughts, between you and the river.

For example, when there was disagreement between my wife and me, I have to be mindful of my arising thoughts. Often my thoughts will be of the past and the future. I will have to be the watcher of that arising thoughts. As a watcher, I am about to be aware if my reply is to be motivated by pride, jealousy, anger, loving-kindness, or compassion. Thus, it will not turn into an unnecessary argument.
